Aviation Safety Training

Safety is the most important factor when it comes to flying an aircraft. We are lucky to have 3 major organizations that provide extensive and often-times free safety training. Below are the aviation safety training programs offered by the FAA, EAA and AOPA.

FAA WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program

The objective of the WINGS Program is to address the primary accident causal factors that continue to plague the general aviation community. By focusing on this objective, we hope to reduce the number of accidents we see each year from the same causes. As you will see, it is not a simple “Award” program but is instead a true proficiency program, designed to help improve our skills and knowledge as pilots.

The WINGS – Pilot Proficiency Program is based on the premise that pilots who maintain currency and proficiency in the basics of flight will enjoy a safer and more stress-free flying experience.

The program encourages an on-going training program that provides you an opportunity to fly on a regular basis with an authorized flight instructor. The program is most effective if the training is accomplished regularly throughout the year, thus affording you the opportunity to fly in different seasons and in different flight conditions.

Reviewing and refreshing your knowledge is just as important as actual flying. To meet this goal, we provide you many opportunities to complete online courses, attend seminars and other events, and participate in webinars. Many 3rd party activities, such as those offered by AOPA, ASA, Sporty’s, Gleim Publications, and others, qualify for WINGS credit and will indicate such credit on their website.

Flying Clubs in Vermont

Flying clubs are a great way to reduce the cost of flying by spreading the costs associated with aircraft ownership and maintenance amongst a group of pilots. Medical Examiners

Before you can solo an airplane or helicopter you will need to obtain a medical certificate from the FAA. An Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) serves the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the flying community by medically certifying pilots. Each pilot is required to meet specific medical standards depending on the class of medical certificate for which the pilot applies. Below are resources to assist you in finding an Aviation Medical Examiner.

Vermont Aviation Program

The Aviation Program promotes a vibrant air transportation system in Vermont by assuring a safe, well-maintained system of public use airports, while also promoting aviation to develop sustainability in Vermont’s aviation industry and at our airports.
